The Suburban Otaku Squad will be holding a free anime showing on Saturday, 16 January 2010 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Come join us and watch four hours of big-screen anime, Japanese music videos, and anime music videos in big-screen projection and surround sound!
Don't be shy...we're a friendly group. Everyone is invited, and the event is free; you don't have to be a member to attend. Can't make it for the whole showing? Please feel comfortable coming late or leaving early. We welcome new faces. Bring a friend!
After months of cancellations and weather-related delays, we'll REALLY be holding voting at this meeting to fill the empty series slot. No, seriously, we will. If you're a member who wants to pitch a series and hasn't sent it to sos-discuss yet, you've got until Friday at 11:59 pm to do so.
The showing will be held at our usual venue:
SOS Headquarters, 695 Edgewood, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406
We're conveniently located less than ¼ mile away from the Hughes Park station stop of SEPTA's Route 100 high speed line (also known as the P&W line).
( Click here for mapCollapse )
Look for the S.O.S. sign on the door, and come on in and follow the sound of the anime.
The showing will begin at 6:00 P.M. On the marquee this week:
6:00 Ergo Proxy
Episode 17: Never-ending Battle/terra incognita
Episode 18: Sign of the End/life after god
7:00 Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
Episode 15: Nautilus's Biggest Crisis
Episode 16: The Mystery of the Island that Vanished
8:00 Voting and Potluck
We'll be voting to fill the empty series slot. Afterward, anyone can bring an anime DVD or VHS tape and we all vote on which we'll watch. Time between shows will be filled with AMVs, JMVs, and pizza. Should you wish to partake of the pizza, we request a contribution of $5.
If travel conditions are poor you may wish to call the S.O.S. hotline at (610) 590-4313 for the latest cancellation information. Cancellations will also be posted to the SOS website and the sos-announce mailing list.
Hope to see you there!

THANK YOU FROM ZENKAIKON 2007
More Than 550 Attendees, Breaking Last Year’s Record
VALLEY FORGE, PA – Zenkaikon would like to thank the 2007 attendees, artists and vendors for making 2007 the biggest Zenkaikon attendance yet. “We hosted 570 con-goers, a more than 100 person attendance surge from last year’s record of 450 people. Zenkaikon is all about the fans. The Zenkaikon staff and I would not be able to have such a successful convention without them,” said Jacqueline Reitnauer, Zenkaikon Con-chair.
New to Zenkaikon this year was the band HSU-NAMI who was one of the acts that rocked the Main Events room. The returning favorite, Eyedolu, engaged the crowd with another first-rate musical performance. Karl “Uncle Yo” Custer kept his promise to, “Make you laugh so hard, your chibi will feel it.” with his comedic observations about otaku, gamers, Trekkies, comic book fan-boys, and the like. The “Cosplay Dating Game” had contestants playing as their favorite anime, video game and manga characters. The laughter continued with The “Whose Line Is It Anyway” inspired “Anime Whose Line” where contestants performed impromptu comedy skits as various anime, video game and manga characters.
In addition to the attendees and performers was the diverse group of vendors and artists at this year’s Zenkaikon. The Dealer’s Room had 22 tables selling everything from Pocky, vintage kimonos, and T-shirts to jewelry, DVDs and video games. Artists’ Alley had 24 tables showcasing many creative talents from hand-made bags, clothes and jewelry to original art, fan art and on the spot commissioned portraits.
Zenkaikon 2008 will take place on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18!!. at the Scanticon Valley Forge Hotel and Conference Center in King of Prussia, PA.
Keep watching www.Zenkaikon.com for details on Zenkaikon 2008 pre-registration dates and rates, artist and vendor table reservations and information on 2008 performers and events!
